SPN (Spartan Post News) is the winner of Oklahoma Scholastic Media’s 2014 and 2013 All-Oklahoma and Charles E. “Colonel” Savedge Sweepstakes Award and All-Oklahoma winner as the best online high school newspaper in the state of Oklahoma. In 2014, SPN also was awarded OSM’s Journalism Spirit Award. In 2015, SPN’s video “Wipeout Cancer’s Colors” won OSSAA’s 6A State Award for Win Win Week, only one of five awards given nationally for a school bringing awareness and raising funds as a community service.

The Bixby High School Journalism Department strives to empower student journalists to be creative, innovative, act independently and report accurate, fair and balanced news of the highest quality and value.

Students are trained in all aspects of journalism. These skills are reflected in SPN through traditional and multimedia journalism as well as broadcast journalism and sports broadcasting.  As a result SPN staff members are writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers and broadcast journalists. SPN TV produces content for a weekly announcement program, SPN Take Five, a monthly feature magazine show, SPN Extra and live sports broadcasts for Bixby Spartans TV and Cox Channel 24.

SPN’s adviser is Dee Harris, Bixby High School’s Director of Communications, Broadcast and Journalism Instruction.
